You've been chosen to participate in the match. Perhaps you were abducted from your bed, or in the middle of your day to day life. Perhaps someone else was chosen, and you volunteered to go in their place. Someone came to your home and took you and one other person.
You wake up in the underwater training facility, a contestant in the Blood Match. Immediately upon your waking up, the game and its rules will be explained, so all that's left to do is to meet your competitors.
During their stay at the training facility, each pair will stay in a large and luxuriously furnished two-bedroom suite. The suites have obviously been designed to keep the players as comfortable as possible; though any items that you had on you when you were abducted have been removed, you can find clothing similar in style to your normal casualwear in your room as well as any small luxuries you may want during your week-long stay. Each room also comes equipped with its own state-of-the-art television screen that will broadcast information about the game as it comes.
The facility itself is fashioned similarly to a minimalist but expensive hotel, with glass windows and panels offering an excellent view of the surrounding ocean. There are three separate training areas for melee weapons, ranged weapons, and basic survival skills. If you'd like to take a break, the dining hall serves fine cuisine from every pair's homeland and there's a spa and rec room you can relax in. For those hailing from less technologically-advanced worlds, no need to worry; there are helpful robot buddies stationed all around the facility that will instruct you on how to operate anything you might not understand.
As for the arena itself...all in due time. For now, the only information you'll receive is that it seems to be an island of some sort.
This game is a murder game with gameplay elements borrowed from series like the Hunger Games and Battle Royale. Familiarity is not necessary to play or even an advantage - while our game will be borrowing a lot of the more specific gameplay elements particularly of the Hunger Games, it is a unique game and you can rely on the rules as explained here.
The Blood Match involves taking a number of people from different worlds - two per world, although your match may not necessarily be your ally. You are each equipped with a collar that will detonate should you try to escape or should time run out. All of you are brought to an arena with a simple pack of supplies and one randomly assigned tool. Your goal is to survive and to eliminate the other players. The last player standing will be permitted to return home, never bothered again, with power and winnings. Everyone else? Well, you're expected to perish in the ring. Killing your fellow players may be your only option to survive.
The Blood Match is like any popular sport - it's a test of your skill and ability, but it's also a show to entertain an audience. Your abilities will be put to the test in determining whether you survive, but the audience will also, at times, be able to influence the outcome of parts of the game. It's to your advantage to both triumph over the other players and appeal to the audience.
Oh, and try not to be boring. If things slow down too much, that's when the game runners will spice up the action or take you out of the game.
The game will operate on a weekly schedule, with one OOC week making up one IC day.
The first week of the game will be arrival, training, and CR building, before the characters are placed in the arena. After that, a certain amount of characters will die each week.
The arena is divided into different zones on a map. The zones will be revealed as you explore, but there will be restrictions, dangers, and benefits to each zone. Travel between zones will only be possible through certain routes. During the week, there will be general logs for posting, but players are also permitted to post their own logs to the main community.
Every Sunday, all players must post a "check in" by 5 PM EST. The check in will describe which zone their character is in, what their character is attempting to do that day (hiding, foraging, finding a target, traveling to a different zone). The mods will then let you know which players you're likely to run into, and whether someone will try to kill your character. We expect players to work together OOCly once they have been notified to discuss how a confrontation will play out.
If you want to kill someone, you can also submit to the mods what your character is trying to accomplish, and we will try to help you set it up. That said, please note that unlike our previous games such as Murder Manor, submitting a plan is not a guarantee that your target will die or that your character will get away safely. When a plan has been submitted, the mods will get in contact with all the players involved so that they can all discuss what the IC outcome of the situation will be and where they would like the thread to go. If the outcome of a confrontation can't be agreed upon or is too close to call, then let the mods know and we'll use RNG to decide who dies.
Can you make plans to meet characters or even have characters killed outside of the check in? Always! This is just to help facilitate plots happening, so the game doesn't stagnate.
Sponsorships
What's a game without someone behind the scenes changing the odds? While every character will emerge in the arena with nothing but a small pack of supplies and a randomly assigned tool, if they earn enough favor from the audience, they may be given significant advantages over their competition through sponsorships. Sponsorships can range from life-saving medicine to food rations to even weapons or powers that had been taken away upon arrival. Of course, there's no guarantee that what you wind up getting is what you want....
OOCly, activity and moving the plot forward will play a large factor in determining who receives sponsorships. The audience will be much more interested in those fighting for survival than those who choose to hide it out.
Careers
This game would be rather boring if everyone just held hands the whole time! Players who are likelier to be natural killers will be deemed as careers. Careers may receive small advantages at the start of the game such as better supplies, their preferred weapon happening to lie near where they emerge in the arena, a higher chance of sponsorship, and so on. Of course, the audience expects them to keep their end of the bargain in return. A career who disappoints their fans by playing the pacifist may just find all their benefits being stripped away.
Every player will be matched with a partner upon arriving at the training facility. For the most part, this partner will be someone they already know or is from their world. The game can be won by a matched pair - in other words, if the two people left standing at the end are partners, they'll both be deemed as victors. That said, you don't necessarily have to ally with your match! There are no consequences to letting your partner die or even killing them yourself aside from losing a potential ally.
Because of the way matches work, we will only be allowing two characters from each canon in this game. Please go to this post to discuss potential matches. If you're playing a lone canon warrior, you can either work with another LCW to create an AU where they would know each other or we can randomize a match for you.
How big is this game? Can I app more than one characters?
There will be a cap at 30 characters. We will allow second characters if there are enough slots remaining. There is a maximum of two characters per canon.
What is the pacing of the game?
One IC day = one real life week. While backtagging is fine, the pace of the game only works if people make an effort to be around and tag most nights out of the week.
How long will the game last?
Depends on the number of characters playing, but no more than 10 weeks.
What if I need to drop halfway through?
Please contact us as soon as possible and let us know so we can minimize the impact on the game. In this game, we should be able to accommodate that, but since we need an active playerbase, if you're not sure about playing this may still not be the game for you.
Can I app characters from previous murder games?
If you plan to do this, please talk to us first. CRAUs are allowed, but we don't want characters to have a sense from past games that death may not be permanent.
How do powers or special skills work?
All characters arrive de-powered. Sponsorship prizes can include getting powers back, but maybe not exactly how you expect...
How can I contact the mods?
The easiest way is to send a PP to
We're not going to be keeping tabs on activity, although if someone is frequently inactive, we may speak to them and are likely to choose them to be killed that week. Our expectations are that everyone will be tagging regularly during the week (at least be involved several days out of the week) and will tag around. All characters will be required to post a 'check in' every Sunday, and anyone who doesn't without letting us know in advance may have their character killed.
If you do know you'll be unavailable for any reason, just send a PM to the mod account or PP the mod plurk and let us know in advance. We know things come up, we just need fair warning to work around it. We would much rather you talk to us than just let your character idle.
If your character is killed or made a target due to inactivity, and the reason you were inactive was a serious emergency and there was no way to let us know beforehand, please tell us right away and we'll help out. The activity requirements are not meant to punish anyone for circumstances outside their control.
1) Your character can, and likely will, die. This is something you must agree on as a possibility by playing this game. But not to worry- the dead will still be able to watch the game unfold and comment from the graveyard.
2) IC knowledge =/= OOC knowledge. Don't take advantage of knowledge you have outside the game to help your character in the game.
3) We expect you to be active; inactivity can make the game a lot less fun for the other players. If something unanticipated comes up that affects your ability to be present, please let us know. We're happy to try and help, but we can't do much if we don't know in advance.
4) This game will only work if you're willing to work with others. Always feel free to come to the mods if there are issues with another player or you feel something is unfair. However, if we get the idea anyone is punishing someone OOCly for valid IC actions like killing/targeting their character, we will have a talk with you.
5) As deaths will for the most part not be randomized or under mod control, we expect players to work together OOCly to determine the outcome of any confrontations. If an outcome can't be decided upon, let the mods know and we'll use RNG to determine who dies. Please do not assume your character will be able to kill someone without getting in touch with the player first.
6) If any issues arise, please contact us through
